San Juan Islands Spring Wildflower Tours
Coastal headlands and forests in Washington’s Salish Sea islands burst into a palette of colors when wildflowers emerge from hibernation. Join Skagit Guided Adventures small group San Juan Islands Spring Wildflower Tours to “Color Your Spirit”!
Around mid to late-March, the procession of wildflowers begins. Purple from the Blue-eyed Mary tiny flowers and white from the even tinier Miner’s lettuce begin sprinkling the brown landscape with color. White and pink dashes are soon added by the much taller Woodland Star and White Plectitis.
Yellow follows, added by Spring Gold and Yellow Monkeyflower. The Checker Lily adds scattered brown and green with their mottled flowers. Deep pink is then added as dwarf sea blush emerges. The purple Satin flowers bloom for only a couple of days
Later in April, Common Camas, Death Camas, Sea Thrift, Yarrow and many others cover entire hillsides creating a collage of colors!
In the meantime, white Trout Lilies, purple Calypso Orchids and spotted Coralroots grow secretly in the forest floor. Salmonberries and many other bushes do their part in adding their beautiful multicolored flowers to the forest understory. And on it goes.
