Seattle Anacortes Wildlife Eco Tour – Salish Sea, Washington
Sunday morning, 8:30 am, overcast sky, light wind at Washington Park in Anacortes, WA. We began our Anacortes Wildlife Eco Tour on the paved loop road and were immediately embraced by the lush greenery of this coastal park. Salmonberries are ripening and almost ready for picking. At the Green Point lookout, the sweet smell of our native wild nootka roses fills the air. It’s low tide.
A pelagic cormorant close to the rocks surfaces with a sculpin fish dangling from it’s beak. A couple hundred feet further are two harbor porpoise quickly surfacing for air and quickly disappearing in apparent feeding mode. We walked to the next lookout spot and see a squirrel sitting on top of the bench. Down below is a pair of oystercatchers in full oystercatcher regalia (all black with a bright orange beak) and behavior: walking on the wet slippery rocks picking for food and producing their very distinctive calls. After a couple of minutes they both fly away and we all feel a sense of contentment for the wildlife and behaviors we got to see.
What a great way to “Re-Wild” Our Spirit! this serene Sunday morning.
