Lake Twentytwo Hiking Tour – North Cascades, Washington

Lake Twentytwo trail takes you through an exemplary old-growth forest guarded by giant cedars, firs & hemlocks, a healthy understory of multi-aged trees and berry bushes, an expansive carpet of moss, a rocky talus slope lined with huge maples, a forest wetland, and beautiful wildflowers. 

Want to pick wild blueberries?  Blueberries bloom in Spring and by June you can pick your own delicious blueberries!  There should be some left after the wildlife has had first pickings.

 

 

The destination?

Lake Twentytwo, a small lake set under the most stunning rock wall of Mount Pilchuck. Beautiful flower-filled meadows paint the lake surroundings in both summer and fall colors.
This lake collects all the snowmelt and feeds it to the creek emptying its rushing waters into the Stillaguamish River.  The dirt trail weaves in and out of view and sound of Lake Twentytwo Creek as it traverses wooden bridges, rivulets, steps, rocky, rooty and wet terrain.

This very well maintained trail accommodates hikers of all levels and is 6 mi round-trip, including the loop around the lake.

This trail is situated within the Lake Twentytwo Research Natural Area (RNA) established in 1947 to allow the forest to grow naturally. This system of RNAs is a network of public lands set aside to preserve natural ecosystems.

This is one of Skagit Guided Adventures most favorite and popular hike because of the opportunity to see an intact (from logging) and thus healthy old-growth forest habitat!
